The New Pollution: # 034 – Modern Rivals

Modern Rivals take their name from a group of inferior and plagiaristic mathematicians identified in a 19th century geometry textbook. But don’t let that fool you, they’re actually complete nerds.

Hailing from Brooklyn (of course) Modern Rivals are five friends who met at different school levels in New York and Chicago. They make dreamy indie pop that is complimented elegantly by lead singer Mickey’s balladry. There are plenty of spaceship take-off samples if you’re having a boring day at work and need to be transported somewhere a bit magical.

Modern Rivals sound like The Postal Service, M83, Cocteau Twins and Beach House. They are currently working on a full-length album, so stay tuned. In the meantime, download their Sea Legs EP for free from their Bandcamp.
