Music Feeds Faves – 20/11/15

Each week the Music Feeds team hunt down their favourite new tunes, bundle them up in some (often highly legible) words and bring them to you. It’s Music Feeds Faves.

Jack Stirling – Lovers

Following the sparkling disco magic that was his last single Honey, Aussie muso Jack Stirling has sliced up another fresh cut from his debut EP Pink Paint (out now!). Lovers is a decidedly downtempo turn on the record, seductive (obviously, given the title) in its r’n’b groove and woozy production, all whilst remaining danceable as ever thanks to Stirling’s crisp vocals.

Put this one on high rotation, but you might want to limit your plays at work. You’ll probably find yourself spelling out “c-o-c-a-i-n-e”  intermittently throughout the day. / Nastassia Baroni, Editor

LDRU – Keeping Score (Ft. Paige IV)

Sydney producer LDRU’s latest single Keeping Score is getting an absolute belting on the local radio at the moment, and I for one welcome our new indie-electro overlord.

Dripping in screeching, cemetery strings and beefed up with an infectious beat all held together by Paige’s MØ-esque sublimely powerful vocals Keeping Score is en route for Song of Summer status.

Twelve Foot Ninja – One Hand Killing

Twelve Foot Ninja have returned with a brand new song called One Hand Killing and their just-unveiled music video is packing one of the most amazing intros of all time. The Ninja star as five roughnut bogans, the likes of which you might spotto punching durries and necking paper-bagged longies outside your local T-A-B.
The fact that this band, with their skyrocketing international profile, has opted to go full ‘Straya in their new clip is nothing short of heartwarming, and you’ll grin like a drunk dickhead as the band’s alter egos, Ferret and the Sickos, shoot the shit for more than two minutes about whether or not Rohan has been busy (answer: busy as a cat burying shit on concrete).
This joyful spurt of creepy houso humour has a touch of the King Parrots, but the hip thrusts, smooth tongue-moves and crotch gongs that follow are one hundy per Twelve Foot Ninja.
Oh, and did I mention that the song itself is a fucking doozy? Epically demented metal riffage meets funk fusion and a huge chorus that has a Faith-No-More-in-their-heyday sort of vibe.

Thundercat – Paris

In the last week, Paris has been shocked by more needless violence from religious extremists. It seems, to me at least, like the music community is feeling the almost surreal nature of this whole ordeal more than it ever has before, after terrorists targeted an Eagles Of Death Metal show in the French capital.

Thundercat and producer Mono/Poly have shared a short instrumental piece “in tribute to those who lost their lives” in the attacks. It’s a cool one-and-a-half minutes of noodling which comes embedded with a quiet sadness, but also the feeling that one day everything is going to be okay. / Tom Williams, Staff Writer

Tennyson – SLIPPERZ

Tennyson are these ridiculously cute Canadian siblings that you could pick up and put on your mantlepiece forever, however, that would be a terrible waste of their talent. They’re making intimate and delicate electronic tunes and have been tipped by fellow Ryan Hemsworth who has released their music in the past on his Secret Songs Soundcloud label.
Their latest cut is SLIPPERZ which samples Destiny’s Child’s Cater 2 U and was premiered on Jaden Smith’s Beats 1 show. It’s full of tip-toe beat work and crystalline synths that make it feel like precious china. Somebody on Soundcloud commented and said the song is “like a bottle of fresh frosty Canadian air,” and they’re bang on. It’s hard to bottle that stuff but Tennyson have done it and it’s a beautiful thing. / Sam Murphy, Staff Writer
