Music Feeds Podcast Episode #49 – RocKwiz (Brian Nankervis)

The iconic Australian music quiz show RocKwiz is set to take their ‘RocKwiz Salutes Vanda and Young’ show on the road again early next year. Our very own Mike Hohnen spoke to the show’s co-host Brian Nankervis for the latest Music Feeds Podcast, and found out just why they’ve decided to take their format into theatres around the country, and why they’re so eager to honour Australian music royalty Vanda and Young.

Harry Vanda and George Young are an iconic songwriting/producing duo from Sydney, responsible for founding The Easybeats, producing The Angels, producing the first six AC/DC records and even writing songs for John Paul Young. Nankervis reveals in the interview, “[RocKwiz] guitarist/keyboard player James Black has had this idea for a while now about playing a show that is a tribute to Vanda and Young… These incredible legends of the Australian music industry,” and that the idea was conceptualised around this and the plethora of material the show could draw on from Vanda and Young’s illustrious career.

Nankervis was tight-lipped on just which artists will be appearing at the RocKwiz live gigs, but mentioned that the 90-minute shows have already locked in ten performers and twelve songs to be performed. Comparing theatre shows to television filming of the show, he added, “We like to give the impression that it’s very spontaneous but in fact everything is fairly carefully planned, and the live shows even more so.”

RocKwiz Live have already been announced for the Bluesfest 2014 lineup, but you can check out details of their remaining Vanda and Young tribute dates down below.
