Music Feeds Podcast Episode #6 – The Paper Kites

Melbourne’s Paper Kites are set to kick off their first headlining run of Australian tour dates at the end of August. It’s currently fire on all cylinders for the crew, who have been hand-picked by City and Colour to support them on their tour throughout North America and Canada, all before their debut full-length States is officially released. Music Feeds caught up with frontman Sam Bentley to pick his brains about all the happenings in recent months, and what’s to come.

Sam took the call while he was midway through a road trip in Victoria during some much deserved down time. In a matter of weeks, the band will all be loading up the van and hitting a massive run of tour dates in support of their latest single St Clarity. Sam gave us a little bit of an update on how the bands shaping up for the tour, and though they may be a bit rusty at this point they’ll be all over it come show time.

The significance of their upcoming international tour is not lost on Sam at all. “We’re not quiet sure how it happened, but we did get a new booking agent who books for Dallas, and I think he sent through some of our music. Apparently he took our EP home for the weekend and said ‘Yep, I really want these guys’.” Sam explains that many of the band are already big fans of City and Colour, and are totally thrilled for the experience.

States is shaping up to be a healthy cross section of the band’s individual sensibilities. Sam detailed the delicate balance between keeping their followers happy while exploring their sound like they never have before. The record has been given a tentative release date of August and, with just a few more touch-ups to make and one more single to release, things are looking on schedule, just in time for the fans to learn the words for their tours.
