Recently announced as part of the lineup for Groovin The Moo 2014, East London’s favourite troublemaker Dizzee Rascal has also announced a run of East Coast headline dates. Our own Mike Hohnen caught up with Dizzee while he was in Los Angeles for the latest Music Feeds Podcast.
“I’ve always moved around the way I move,” Dizzee tells us when we asked him about his epic social media presence, which allows fans to see him moving and shaking with stars like P Diddy, taking onstage selfies before crowds of thousands, or just relaxing with a drink at a bar.
While Dizzee admits he’s not up to speed with the ethos behind Australia’s most beloved rural touring festival, he says, “I just know that it’s full of Australian people, so for me, that’s already a good time. When I come to that side of the world…I’ve got so much history there.”
“Australia, for me, it’s for life. As long as I’m doing what I’m doing, it’s a given. It’s an important place for me. I have so much fun there, I love it. I just love how open and responsive the crowds are there. For the last couple years it’s been the place where I’ve actually tested out my albums.”
Despite the partying, jet-setting lifestyle and Instagram photos with Jay-Z, Dizzee says that at the end of the day, he’s a workhorse. “I’m an early bird…I’m not out there getting crazy crazy, I just put the best bits on Instagram. I’m focused and I always have been because I love what I do.”
