PREMIERE: Melbourne Punk Band Captives Go Hard On New Single ‘Villain’

Melbourne punk and hard rock fivesome, Captives, are ready to roll with the follow-up to their anthemic single, ‘Buried & Bones’, which landed earlier this year. The band’s new single, ‘Villain’, is out this Wednesday, 17th November. We’re premiering it today on Music Feeds.

Although Captives have spent much of 2021 in lockdown, this allowed them to get stuck into writing and recording new music. They put out ‘Buried & Bones’ in August and the song’s official music video has since gathered more than 75,000 YouTube views.

The new single, ‘Villain’, begins with a sample of climate activist Greta Thunberg, saying, “My message is that we’ll be watching you.” Thunberg appears at the song’s midpoint, too. The track was produced and mixed by Tyson Fish (Vance Joy, Mammal, Children Collide), who’s responsible for the inclusion of the outraged Thunberg.

“Tyson added the Greta Thunberg sample at the start and middle of the track and now when I hear the song it’s definitely got some kind of an environmental theme about it, but I’m not sure that’s what the song was even about in the first place,” laughs vocalist Aaron Damon.

Either way, ‘Villain’ matches the hard rock attitude, punk rock energy and alt-rock anthemics of ‘Buried & Bones’, punch for punch. Listen to ‘Villain’ below and pre-save/pre-order here.

Captives are heading out on tour in April 2022, with shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Gold Coast. Get your tickets here.
