The Retreat – Pop Country

Alternate pop country act The Retreat have released their debut EP and are setting out on the road to unleash it to the masses. Ross from the band shed some light on who The Retreat are and why we should see their show at MUM at World Bar on the 22nd of October.

MF: What’s new in the world of The Retreat?

R: Well, we just released our debut EP, so we’re really excited about that!

MF: For those who haven’t heard you guys before, give us a run down on your sound and history?

R: Our sound I guess is something like pop/alt. country/alternative… y’know? We’ve been playing together for about two years.

MF: The debut EP came out earlier in the year; tell us a bit about the recording process?

R: Well, we did a day at Sydney’s BJB Studios for the drums and bass and some piano stuff, then did the vocals, guitars and everything else at our wonderful house in Neutral Bay, which was our rehearsal space and where we had started the band, so we felt it was natural to record for our first release there.

MF: What bands/artists have directly influenced The Retreat’s sound?

R: Bands like Wilco, The Shins, The Thrills, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles… stuff like that. It’s pop music, but with a hint of something more.

MF: What are the plans over summer for The Retreat?

R: Touring! We have this EP out now, and we plan to play it for everyone this side of the equator this summer!

MF: Why should Music Feeds’ readers head out to MUM @ World Bar on the 22nd to catch you guys play?

R: ‘Coz we’re a lot of damn good fun! Alt. country/pop the whole family can enjoy!

MF: What would be first song you would put onto a mix tape?

R: With a Little Help From My Friends – The Beatles. That’s what it’s all about.
