A literal busload of rising Australian acts have announced the first ever Up The Guts tour, which will see five bands make their way through capital cities, regional centres and even some lesser-known gems this July and August.
The inaugural Up The Guts tour will see the musos pack into a bus for 15 shows across Australia over 18 days, as well as 10 youth workshops where they’ll share their music industry experience. The tour will make its way from Hobart to Darwin, stopping in places like Burnie, Castlemaine, Mount Gambier, Coober Pedy, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.
Travelling the 7,500kms will be Melbourne singer-songwriters Ben Wright Smith and Ali E, as well as garage rockers ScotDrakula, indie-rockers Scott & Charlene’s Wedding and Jack, Jo & Friends, a collaboration between Big Scary drummer Jo Syme and Pretty Littles frontman Jack Parsons. Each stop of the tour will also see the bands joined by a local act and some Guts DJs.
As triple j reports, the tour was largely conceived by Parsons and his mate James Clarke, who say it’s a kind of “throwback to the grassroots touring that Aussie pub rock was built on in the late ’70s and ’80s”.
“As was just the general nature of touring in those days. It was less about strategy and more about playing anywhere at anytime… We also want to challenge the touring routes that Australian bands rely on,” they say.
