Aussie J. Cole Fans “Disgusted” By Ticketmaster Stuff-Up

Fans of North Carolina rapper J. Cole are furious with Ticketmaster, after the ticketing giant released a bunch of tickets to the rapper’s upcoming Australian tour ahead of schedule, before directing fans who missed out on tickets to its resale website, where tickets are up for sale at inflated prices.

Tickets to J. Cole’s now sold-out Perth show were advertised to go on sale at 12pm local time Tuesday, 28th February, but actually went on sale as early as 9am local time.

In multiple identical statements posted to Facebook, Ticketmaster Australia says it experienced “a system error which caused some Perth tickets to be released early”. In the statement, the company goes on to direct customers to its resale site, on which J.Cole tickets are currently being flogged for as much as $1,000 a pop.

Ticketmaster says all the tickets which were released early “were quickly taken off sale and released again at midday (local time)”.

“Only a very small number of tickets were purchased during this period and the majority were sold from midday,” the company says.

“This aside, J Cole was a very popular event and the tickets did sell very quickly at midday, with the allocation being exhausted very soon after the tickets went on sale.”

Many disgruntled Facebook users later flooded the Ticketmaster Australia Facebook page with complaints, including user Gian De Poloni‎, who wrote:

“It’s disgusting that you are facilitating the re-sale of tickets at exorbitant prices. How is it that dozens and dozens of people were able to jump on your partner site immediately after they purchased today and sell their tickets at three to four times the original cost? That’s an absolute rort.”

Ticketmaster Australia is yet to respond to Music Feeds‘ request for comment.

J. Cole’s ‘4 Your Eyez Only’ world tour is scheduled to hit Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth this December, and all shows are now sold out.

Music Feeds has contacted tour promoter Live Nation for comment, regarding the possible addition of extra shows.

Update 02/03/17: A Ticketmaster spokesperson has issued the following statement to Music Feeds:

“We experienced a system error ahead of the J. Cole general sale on Tuesday (28 February 2017) which meant some tickets were released early for the HBF Stadium, Perth show on 9 December. Tickets were quickly taken off sale and released again, as planned, at midday (local time). We can confirm that only a very small number of tickets were purchased during this period and the majority were sold from midday.”
