Ben Lee is set to return to Australia with a new album to release and a new tour to support it. Ayahuasca: Welcome To The Work is the ninth solo album from Lee and is set for release Tuesday, 23rd April via One World Music.
We’ll have to wait and see if Lee’s upcoming LP is as psychedelic as the title suggests. Ayahuasca is a South American brew with psychedelic properties, a concoction that fans of The Joe Rogan Experience will have undoubtedly heard of.
Ayahuasca: Welcome To The Work is also a Pledge Music project, co-created by Argentinean-Australian musician and actress Jessica Chapnik Kahn, who sings on the album under the name of Appleonia.
100% of artist royalties earned from Ayahuasca… will be split between two non-profit organisations. Half of the artist royalties will be given to the Amazon Conservation Team while the other half will go towards the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS).
As Lee explains on the album’s Pledge Music page, his new album is meant to pay homage to the beneficial outcomes the musician has experienced via ayahuasca:
“The album is designed to reflect the inner journey – dynamic and joyful, meditative and tender, playful and experimental. I only hope the music contains some small portion of the deep nourishment that I have experienced from the plant medicine… I wanted to make music as a gift to the medicine… It’s more devotional music than anything else, but not easy listening. It’s demanding, experimental music, just as ‘the work’ itself is demanding.”
