Billie Eilish Questions Global Obsession Over Johnny Depp Trial: ‘Who Fucking Gives A Fuck?’

Billie Eilish has used a forthcoming song to question the disparity between the global concern of reproductive rights in favour of a celebrity trial during a new interview.

Speaking to NME recently, Eilish opened up about her yet-to-be released song, ‘TV’, which the singer has performed throughout her European tour.

In the song, Eilish address the recent fascination with the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp trial, and notes how little attention was paid to the then-impending overturning of Roe v. Wade in the US. “The internet’s gone wild watching movie stars on trial,” she sings, “while they’re overturning Roe v. Wade“.

Alongside the official US Supreme Court decision on Roe v. Wade on Friday, the singer was featured as the latest cover artist for NME. Within the feature on Eilish, the singer vented her frustrations on internet culture, pointing out how superficial celebrity drama takes precedence over the rights of others.

“I was in this state of depression, losing my own rights to my own body, and then I’d go on the internet and it would be people giving their take on this trial,” she explained.

“Who fucking gives a fuck? Women are losing rights for their bodies, so why are we talking about celebrities’ divorce trials? Who gives a shit? Let them figure it out on their own. The internet bothers the shit out of me sometimes.”

Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade on Friday, countless musicians have shared their thoughts on the matter, with many also donating funds to abortion access groups across the US.
