Deadbeat and Hazy are names that have been circulating throughout the underground hip hop scene for sometime now, though the Sydney based duo are now taking things to the next level, having very recently released their debut album Baked Not Fried.
Part of the Dead City Zens (DCZ) collective, you may have seen the names Deadbeat and Hazy appear separately alongside artists such as Big Dumb Kid, Subsketch and the Old Men of Moss Mountain, who not only roll in the same clique but have also teamed up for releases such as Mic Murderers with the whole DCZ.
The pair will fit perfectly into the new wave of Aussie hip hop, though hold true to the time-tested motifs of the genre by being smart, easy-going and knowing how to play with words over harsh beats. Their release Baked Not Fried was officially launched at Bel Air in the Cross and featured the likes of Dead City Zens supporting them on the night. The album was recorded under the ever-watchful eye of Daniel ‘Peace’, whose close relationship with Hazy brought him to the project.
The lads next gig will be at The Annadale hotel, August 9. It’s definitely a good idea to get in on Deadbeat and Hazy from the ground floor; the chance won’t be around for long!
