Golden Plains Festival Announces Huge First Act For 2017

UPDATE 18/10/16: The remaining acts on the Golden Plains 2017 lineup have been announced.

ORIGINAL STORY: Meredith’s beloved annual Golden Plains festival is shaping up to be a massive affair, and organisers have only announced one artist so far.

But since said artist is none other than Aussie icon and all-around songwriting legend Neil Finn of Crowded House, Split Enz and general “Finn brothers” fame, well, we’re psyched.

Finn will be gifting next year’s festival with a rare solo performance encompassing all of his most beloved tunes, and it seems like Aunty Meredith is pretty stoked on him returning for seconds after he last graced the festival’s iconic ‘Sup amphitheatre back in 2010.

“Neil’s songs strike a chord that resonates in such a way that it shakes something loose within us,” Aunty Meredith says. “Beautiful, bittersweet and melancholy at times, like a seance, then glorious, raucous and triumphant at others. Joy to the world.

“Many of us know how special it was last time in The Sup’, just Neil and a guitar and the sunset and a chorus of humans joining in. That will be almost seven years ago by the time he walks onto stage. So it’s time.”

The 11th annual Golden Plains will take place across the long weekend of March 11th-13th (under a full moon, we hear) at Meredith’s Supernatural Amphitheatre. The ballot for tickets is now open, and you can enter via goldenplains.com.au before 10pm on Monday, 17th October.

This year’s event saw some magical performances from the likes of Sleater-Kinney, Violent Femmes and Eddy Current Suppression Ring. Stay tuned for the full 2017 lineup announcement, coming soon.

UPDATE 14/10/2016: Neil Finn now has some company on the Golden Plains XI line up. Seminal feather rufflers The Specials are now the 2nd band to be confirmed.
