The already astronomical lineup for Vivid Sydney 2015 has been bolstered with even more star power. Legendary performer Grace Jones has been announced to headline the Modulations programme with two exclusive Australian performances.
Jones will take the stage on Sunday, 31st May and Monday, 1st June at Carriageworks, adding her name to the Vivid class of 2015, which also features the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Daniel Johns, TV On The Radio, The Drones, Flume, The Preatures and Morrissey.
It marks the 66-year-old veteran music and fashion icon’s first performance in Sydney since 2011, and the Modulations crew are ecstatic to have her on board.
“Her ideas around art, music, creativity and light mean she fits the DNA of Modulations,” creative director Steven Pavlovic told Fairfax. “She has a strong history and she’s a strong woman too, and there has been a lack of them in the Vivid program so the opportunity to work with her was a no-brainer.
“Her live sets are duly renowned as nothing short of incredible, moving from disco to funk, from pop to punk, all presented within a visual spectacular as stunning as the musical artistry,” he added. “You can expect lasers, a lot of costume changes and a thumping show with a great band.”
The Modulations programme runs from May 31st to June 7th under the Vivid umbrella, with other previously announced highlights including jazz legend Pharaoh Sanders, and English 1980s pop identity, Bill Drummond.
Once again curated by Modular, this year’s instalment will be set across two weekends, promising six days of exclusive music performances, contemporary ideas and innovative food experiences. Check out the full ticketing and event details for Grace Jones’s Australian shows for Vivid Sydney, below.
