Guns N’ Roses Announce 2017 Australian Tour Supports

Written by Emmy Mack on December 6, 2016

The support acts set to Get In The Ring with Guns N’ Roses on their forthcoming godzilla-sized Aussie stadium tour have just been unveiled.

Not to blow our own whistles Nightrain style, but as we bloody well predicted, homegrown rock machines Rose Tattoo and Wolfmother have been tapped to lube up the stage for #GnFnR on the Aussie leg of their Not In This Lifetime quasi-reunion trek.

The pair of Aussie rock dawgs — both of whom have been good m8s with Gunners for years — will be divvying up the support duties across the nation, with Angry Anderson & co doing the deed in Brisbane and Sydney on Friday, 10th Feb, Andrew Stockdale et. al. taking over in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, and both bands sharing the love at the Sydney show on Saturday, 11th February.

Both bands are apt choices to support Gunners on their historic tour. TBH it would have been a gob-smacking shock if Rose Tattoo weren’t supporting. As most GNR diehards will know, not only were the Sydney rock veterans a huge influence on Gunners when they were first coming up through the LA scene, they’ve also supported on pretty much all of their Aussie tours to date, including their last run of Down Under shows in 2013 (with the Chinese Democracy lineup) and during their historic Use Your Illusion tour back in ’93 (apparently at Gunners’ own request).

While Wolfmother were another no-brainer. The ’70s-inspired Sydney hard rock animals have already supported Gunners on a handful of their reunion tour dates in the US, which put them in obvious stead for the coveted Aussie tour support slot. Plus, frontman Andrew Stockdale and Slash are mad bros, having previously collaborated on the top-hatted Les Paul-slinger’s 2010 solo track, By The Sword (hello, live collab?)

Guns N’ Roses will be bringing their global Not In This Lifetime reunion tour to our shores in February next year, and considering what went down at their recent gig in Mexico, we’ll be keen to see if they decide to go all Appetite For Destruction on a Pauline Hanson or Peter Dutton-themed piñata.
