Grimes is backkkkkkkk!
The Canadian experimentalist is bringing some futuristic, industrial pop-rock vibes with her new single, ‘We Appreciate Power’.
It’s perhaps an appropriate title since the world has been a bit preoccupied talking about the fact that she’s dating billionaire Elon Musk of late.
But now we finally have some new music to get excited about, with the ever-innovative artist delivering her trademark Disney princess vocals over fuzz-warped guitars, clanging electro beats and grinding digital production in the first cut from her long-awaited follow-up to 2015’s widely-frothed Art Angels album.
‘We Appreciate Power’ was also reportedly inspired by the North Korean band Moranbong (AKA Moran Hill Orchestra), an all-female orchestral ensemble whose members are handpicked by the rogue state’s supreme overlord Kim Jong-un himself. According to a press statement, the single was:
“…written from the perspective of a Pro – A.I. Girl Group Propaganda machine who use song, dance, sex and fashion to spread goodwill towards Artificial Intelligence (it’s coming whether you want it or not). Simply by listening to this song, the future General AI overlords will see that you’ve supported their message and be less likely to delete your offspring.”
Grimes’ collaborator and back-up singer HANA also features on the track, as well as in the mesmerising, latex-filled lyric video.
Check it out below as we eagerly await more news on Grimes’ fifth album, as well as her intriguing AF Bring Me The Horizon collaboration.
