California’s High On Fire have just announced a mammoth tour of Australia and New Zealand in February next year bringing their epic live show to our shores with a vengeance.
Sporting one of the most metal names in metal, High On Fire are famous for their “lava geyser of molten riffs and monstrous metal jams” as a press release explains. Led by metal iconoclast and mythic guitarist Matt Pike (of seminal ’90s doom band Sleep), their latest record, Luminiferous, showcases their “volcanic fury” in a tour de force of heavy metal goodness.
“Lyrically, I think this is the album that’s going to basically get secret people to shoot me,” Pike told Rolling Stone before the album’s release. “Dude, I say a lot of fucked-up shit!”
Not a stranger to ‘fucked-up shit’ with 2012’s De Vermis Mysteriis setting the bar for lyrical bombast pretty high as Pike told the story of Jesus’ time-travelling twin brother, Lumineferous cranks the insanity up even higher. Better left for you to all discover on your own, the upcoming tour will be the perfect chance to hear the madness live and in the flesh.
