Lil Peep‘s cause of death has been revealed, with the Pima Country Office of the Medical Examiner ruling that the cloud rapper died of an accidental drug overdose.
As Rolling Stone reports, Peep OD’d on Fentanyl, a powerful opioid, as well as generic Xanax, a mild tranquilliser used to treat anxiety.
TMZ additionally reports that a cocktail of other drugs were found in his system, with Peep’s blood testing positive for marijuana, cocaine and the painkiller Tramadol, and his urine testing positive for all of those drugs as well as opiates such as hydrocodone, generic Dilauded, oxycodone and oxymorphone.
However, the medical examiner did not find any alcohol in his system.
The 21-year-old internet superstar, whose real name was Gustav Åhr, was found dead on his tour bus before a show in Arizona last month.
Though it was already believed he’d died of a drug overdose, police later speculated that the circumstances surrounding his death were being treated as “suspicious”, in light of some “troubling” new evidence.
Sergeant Pete Dugan of the Tucson PD said they were investigating a series of private messages from a fan, who’d allegedly boasted to friends about getting Lil Peep “high af” during a visit to his tour bus just hours before he passed away.
“GBC [Lil Peep] high af because of me and my friend lol,” one of the woman’s DM tweets allegedly reads. “He passed the f*ck out my brother called and I tried to get him to say hi to my brother but he wouldn’t wake up.”
Outraged fans circulating the messages online have accused her of supplying Lil Peep with Xanax laced with the killer drug Fentanyl without the star’s knowledge, and have started an online petition calling for her arrest, which has so far garnered over 30,000 signatures.
Police previously stated that their investigation would hinge on the results of Lil Peep’s toxicology test, so now that that’s been released, it will be interesting to see what happens from here.
We’ll bring you any more news as it develops.
RIP Lil Peep.
