Listen: Brand-New Vampire Weekend Track ‘Arms’ Live In Sydney

It’s only four short months until we’re expecting to see Vampire Weekend as yet untitled third album, but fans in attendance at the band’s Metro Theatre show in Sydney last night were gifted with a sneak peek of a brand-new track, Arms, purportedly lifted from the forthcoming release.

From the bootleg recording posted on SoundCloud in the wee hours of this morning, it sounds as though Vampire Weekend are still on top of their upbeat, indie pop game. Although Arms and previously performed new song Unbelievers sound easy-going enough, Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij promised a darker album the third time around.

“The goal was to use organic sounds and put them in a context that you might not have heard before. It’s certainly darker and grittier than Contra. A lot of these songs are about conflict. They’re about the choices we can make, being able to do what we want with our lives,” Batmanglij told NME.

And a friendly Music Feeds warning – those reports floating around the internet claiming that the album cover and track list for the album have leaked are more than likely a hoax. The new album is due to drop Monday, May 6.
