Lorde Covers Tears For Fears For ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Soundtrack

New Zealand teen sensation Lorde has put her own stamp on Tears For Fears‘ hit Everybody Wants To Rule The World, covering the ’80s classic and putting an appropriately dark stamp on it for the Catching Fire soundtrack.

And Tears For Fears founder Curtis Smith approves of her moody take on his classic hit, telling MTV Hive, “I think it’s absolutely amazing. But then I love her, I think she’s brilliant. We love it when other people cover our stuff. Sometimes we steal them and use their version live.”

“The concept is quite serious — it’s about everybody wanting power, about warfare and the misery it causes,” he said when the song was first released. What a fitting tune for the Hunger Games franchise. Catching Fire is set to have as impressive a soundtrack as the first installment, with tracks from The National, Christina Aguilera, Of Monsters and Men, Coldplay, Diplo, The Weeknd and Sia.

And Lorde has had one hell of a year, having just been announced to play the Argentinian and Chilean editions of Lollapalooza in 2014, as well as turning down a collaboration with EDM star David Guetta.
