Mark Ronson Adds A Surprise New Star To His Splendour Supergroup

Tonight’s Splendour In The Grass headliner Mark Ronson has made a surprise last minute alteration to his all-star backing band, adding talented Australian vocalist Ella Thompson to the fold.

As triple j reports, the singer – who’s vocals you’ve heard with Dorsal Fins, The Bamboos, GL and in her own right as a solo artist – joined Ronson at his Perth sideshow on Wednesday night to perform Record Collection highlight Bang Bang Bang.

Ahead of the performance, Thompson shared a photo on her own Facebook page of the show’s rehearsals, along with the caption: “Daniel Merriweather took this photo so I guess that means it’s real. I’m singing with Mark Ronson tonight! Wtf”.

Ronson had previously announced that original Bang Bang Bang vocalist MNDR would be joining the Uptown Special live entourage for the Splendour tour, but it appears she will no longer be coming to our shores.

Her replacement, Ella, joins the aforementioned Daniel Merriweather, as well as Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, Theophilus London, Andrew Wyatt of Miike Snow, Keyone Starr and fellow recent addition Kirin J. Callinan in Ronson’s supergroup, along with a complete brass band and backing singers.

They’re set to headline Splendour tonight, before playing two more sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne next week.
