Mastodon Unleash ‘High Road’, First Taste Of New Album

The mighty Mastodon have shared the first excerpt from their highly anticipated new album, which they recently confirmed would be titled Once More Round the Sun. The track is called High Road and combines the band’s trademark sense of the epic with a masterclass in riffage and heavy metal.

As the band recently revealed, Once More Round the Sun was recorded in Tennessee late last year with Deftones and Alice in Chains producer Nick Raskulinecz. Bassist and vocalist Troy Sanders confirmed the album would be light on concept but have “a few sprinkles of epic goodness.”

“I’ve had a lot of time to ingest this record, and it’s solid. It’s a large slab of granite. I’m once again completely proud of these guys,” Sanders continued. Readers can check out High Road, which has the band channeling early Metallica, Sleep, and even Mercyful Fate (those vocals soar), below.
