Metallica have officially announced their return to Australia for 2025, after teasing future tour plans as recently as last month. The tour will be the band’s first visit to Australia since 2013, not to mention their first headlining tour since 2010. The five capital city dates are, reportedly, the only shows the American metal veterans will play – ie. no second shows added at any venues. The full list of upcoming dates, as well as pre-sale and ticketing information, can be found below.
Joining the band on the Australasian leg of their M72 world tour – in support of their 2023 album 72 Seasons – will be Evanescence and Suicidal Tendencies. The former were last in Australia in August 2023, as part of their world tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album Fallen, while Suicidal toured Australia that November. They return with new drummer Jay Weinberg in tow, who toured Australia with Metallica’s Rob Trujillo as the rhythm section for Suicidal side project Infectious Grooves back in April as part of this year’s Bluesfest.
Metallica – ‘One’
The tour will mark Metallica’s first-ever time headlining stadiums in Australia. A stadium tour with Slipknot was booked for 2019, in support of their then-most recent album Hardwired… To Self Destruct. The tour was ultimately cancelled, however, when frontman James Hetfield returned to rehab.
