Mew Announce First Ever Australian Tour

Congratulations Aussie Mew fanatics, you’ve done it! After more than 20 years of hard work and lobbying, the stars have aligned and the Danish dream-pop devotees have today announced their debut Australian tour.

I’ll give you a minute while you compose yourselves.

This December, Mew will bring their renowned live show to Australian stages, playing three exclusive headline shows in support of their latest release + –. They’ll be playing Sydney’s Manning Bar on Wednesday, 2nd December followed by shows in Melbourne and Brisbane.

Australia’s passionate and hard-working Mew fanbase, known endearingly as Mewstralia, have lobbied for years for the band to visit our shores, even starting an online petition all the way back in 2009.

“We’ve been so close, we’ve been to South-East Asia, to Indonesia. It’s so frustrating that we’ve never been, we have to go,” Mew’s Jonas Bjerre told Music Feeds earlier this year. “It’s crazy we haven’t gone yet. We’ve got people waiting for us.”

And now it’s finally happening.

“After some concerted rallying and campaigning over 6 years, it was beginning to feel like we’d never see Mew in Australia,” said Stefano Perfili of Mewstralia in a statement. “So we’re beyond stoked that we’ll finally be witnessing Mew live in all their immersive glory! Catch you at the shows!”

Recently, as one of the band’s biggest fans, New Zealand’s Kimbra brought further buzz down under when she featured on tracks The Night Believer and Water Slides.
