New Acts Announced For Groovin The Moo 2014

Groovin The Moo 2014 kicks off next month at Oakbank Racecourse, with a lineup featuring the likes of Disclosure and Karnivool. Joining them will be the newly announced Triple J Unearthed local additions: Sweet Shoppe, The Patriots, Lost Boys, Outlines, Flamingo, and The Acitones.

Garage punk four-piece Sweet Shoppe are set to rock Canberra. Citing everyone from the B-52s to Midnight Oil as influences, this local outfit imbues experimental garage-bred pop numbers with lashings of melancholy and residual teen angst. Their live show has an Australian-only cover policy.

The Patriots describe themselves as a “four piece band from Newcastle that can get real freaky naughty live.” While they may face some stiff competition in the getting “real freaky naughty live” department at Groovin The Moo, these boys are renowned for mobilising, bouncy indie pop tunes.

Meanwhile, Lost Boys are bringing a different flavour to the Groovin The Moo Unearthed contingent, setting themselves the lofty goal of “expand[ing] the boundaries of popular music.” This North Queensland indie five-piece is armed with a diverse and eclectic set of abilities and sounds.

Bound for Bendigo are Outlines, who describe themselves simply as four local boys “playing music we love.” Punks at heart, the band formed in 2012 as a pop-punk outfit with a strong hardcore influence. They’ve since evolved into something unique and ever-changing in the Oz punk scene.

Next up are soulful electronic trio Flamingo. Hailing from Adelaide and bound for Oakbank, this three-piece creates a singular mesh of styles that defies all genres. The band has spent the last 12 months tempering their live chops supporting the likes of Bonobo, Rüfüs, Yacht, and many more.

Last, but not least are The Acitones. Hailing from Margaret River in Western Australia, this six-piece features two brother-sister sets and makes up-beat indie rock inspired by artists like Australia’s own Tame Impala and Grizzly Bear, with their own unique take on things filtered through.
