Northlane & Karnivool’s Ian Kenny Team Up On New Single ‘Afterimage’

Northlane seem to be upping their collab game on their forthcoming EP, Mirror’s Edge. After recently unveiling a musical team-up with Parkway Drive frontman Winston McCall dubbed ‘Miasma’, the Western Sydney metalcore titans have now returned with a new offering in the form of ‘Afterimage’, a collaboration with Ian Kenny from Karnivool.

The pensive song is laced with dark, modal melodies, with Kenny’s iconic clean vocal tone complementing Northlane frontman Marcus Bridge’s menacing screams in an aptly prog-inspired arrangement. Lyrically, it channels the feeling of reflecting on the past whilst looking ahead to a better future, while the chorus tagline also pays homage to the title of the band’s forthcoming EP.

Produced by old friend and collaborator Will Putney, Mirror’s Edge will reach our ears on Friday, 12th April.

The six-track disc is fuelled by a running theme of acceptance, something that bears a great deal of significance for frontman Marcus Bridge, who has laid his demons bare in much of Northlane’s recent music.

“It’s like looking at your reflection, looking at the past and everything I’ve been thinking about, or caught up within the last little while. There’s not much positivity in these songs, but it is about acceptance,” he explains in a press statement.

“Hopefully, by putting these songs out, I can leave that stuff behind and I can kind of find a new direction and something to be positive about on the other side of this mirror’s edge.”
