Peetah Morgan, Lead Singer Of Reggae Band Morgan Heritage Dies At 46

Peetah Morgan, also known as “Peetah,” the main singer of the Grammy-winning reggae band Morgan Heritage, passed away on Sunday, 25th February. He was 46 years old. The Associated Press reported his death, confirmed by Morgan’s family on the band’s social media. However, his cause of death remains undisclosed.

Peetah Morgan and his seven siblings started Morgan Heritage in 1994. Later, the band became a group of five. They worked with famous producer Bobby Digital and released albums like “Protect Us Jah” (1997) and “Don’t Haffi Dread” (1999), mixing old and new reggae.

Even though they loved classic reggae, Morgan Heritage mixed in other music styles like soul and R&B. Their albums often did well on the Billboard reggae charts. In 2015 their album “Strictly Roots” won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album.

Peetah Morgan’s Band Morgan Heritage Announced His Death Via An Instagram Post

Peter Morgans announced the death of Peter Morgan. “It is out of sincere love that we share that our beloved husband, father, son and brother and lead singer of Morgan Heritage, Peter Anthony Morgan, has ascended today, February 25. The band shared via Instagram post. “Jah come and save us from ourselves because love is the only way,”

The band further said .”Without giving any details regarding the cause of death, the statement concluded: “Our family thanks you in advance for your overwhelming love and support and we ask for your continued prayers as we go through this process. We also ask that you please respect our privacy during this time of healing.”

The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness has also shared for Peetah Morgan via a X post saying. “My heart is heavy to learn of the passing of Peetah Morgan of the world renowned Morgan Heritage. I send my deep condolences to the Morgan family as they grieve this tremendous loss which is also a colossal loss for Jamaica and for Reggae Music.

Peetah Morgan’s death is sad news for the reggae community. But his music and memory will live on, inspiring many generations to come. Fans and family remember him as a great musician and a loved family member.
