US death metal pioneers Possessed have announced their imminent return to Australia for a four-date headline run this October, celebrating the 40th anniversary of their landmark debut album, Seven Churches.
The 40th Anniversary Seven Churches Tour will hit Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, with the Melbourne stop set to take place on Halloween night — a fitting date for one of metal’s darkest originators.
Possessed – ‘The Exorcist’
Often credited as one of the first true death metal bands, Possessed helped shape the genre with their raw speed, ferocious growled vocals, and groundbreaking approach to heaviness. Their early work — including Seven Churches (1985), Beyond The Gates (1986), and The Eyes of Horror EP (1987) — cemented their place in metal history and influenced countless bands to follow.
Frontman Jeff Becerra remains at the helm of the band, which has continued to evolve since their comeback album Revelations of Oblivion in 2019. The record was praised as a strong return to form, with critics noting it stayed true to the band’s classic sound while pushing things forward.
Australia hasn’t seen Possessed on our shores in years, making this run a rare opportunity to catch a band who helped define an entire genre — still just as loud, still fast, and brutal four decades later.
