Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, visual artist and producer Portair is gearing up to release new EP The Ice That Breaks early next year, and today, we’re premiering a new single from it titled ‘Out of Focus’.
It’s a relatively sparse electro-folk cut that’s anchored by delicate, understated acoustic guitar, airy synths and gorgeous harmonies, with the Sydney-born, LA-based artist’s gossamer vocals placed front and centre.
“This song is written about a long-distance relationship and the struggles that come with that. It’s about the beautiful feeling of a new love when you find it for the first time,” the songwriter explains.
“It is a hopeful song about holding on even in the most difficult of times. Billions of people search and long for a love that we are so lucky to have found. Let’s do everything in our power to not lose focus of that.”
Portair’s forthcoming EP The Ice That Breaks is set to arrive in January and will follow on from earlier project The Light That Gives, which arrived earlier this year. According to the multi-hyphenate, he wanted the two EPs to feel somewhat connected rather than two separate bodies of work.
“The Light That Gives is the sun that grows a plant from a seed. The Ice That Breaks is where all of a sudden you reach a certain age and wonder, how do I live my best life with what I’ve got?”
