Red Hot Chili Peppers Funk It Up On New Single ‘Poster Child’

Red Hot Chili Peppers have dropped the second single from their upcoming album, Unlimited Love. ‘Poster Child’ arrives one month after the band’s comeback single, ‘Black Summer’.

‘Black Summer’ failed to make a major impact on the global charts, indicating the band’s commercial heyday is behind them. That said, it’s no damp squib: the official music video has notched up 22 million YouTube views and the song’s been streamed 18 million times on Spotify.

‘Poster Child’ lacks the anthemic hooks of ‘Black Summer’, but the track delivers a bounty of sex-o-delic funk grooves and scat-influenced lead vocals. Listen to ‘Poster Child’ below.

Unlimited Love, the Californian band’s 12th album, is due out on Friday, 1st April. It marks the band’s reunion with guitarist John Frusciante, who re-entered the fold in late 2019. Producer Rick Rubin is also back in the hot seat, replacing Danger Mouse, producer of 2016’s The Getaway.

Prior to The Getaway, Rubin produced six consecutive Chili Peppers album: Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991), One Hot Minute (1995), Californication (1999), By the Way (2002), Stadium Arcadium (2006) and I’m with You (2011). Vocalist Anthony Kiedis and bass player, Flea, are the only band members to have played on all 12 Chili Peppers albums. Unlimited Love is drummer Chad Smith’s ninth and Frusciante’s sixth.
