The Rubens Return With New Single ‘Million Man’

Triple j‘s 2015 Hottest 100 winners The Rubens have returned with a new single called ‘Million Man’, complete with contributions from some of rap duo Run The Jewels‘ favourite producers.

Recorded in a former World War II communications bunker in Sydney’s south west, ‘Million Man’ sees The Rubens team up with Run The Jewels producers/collaborators Wilder Zoby and Lil’ Shalimar (aka Torbitt Schwartz), who they met after befriending Run The Jewels member El-P at Laneway Festival back in 2013.

It’s the first single to be lifted from The Rubens’ upcoming third album, which is due for release in 2018.

“When it came time to look for a producer for this new record, we realised that they’d be the perfect guys to work with,” says The Rubens’ Elliott Margin.

“‘Million Man’ was the first track we worked on in the studio with the boys. It was genuinely just a fun time building the song and being creative together.

“The song itself kind of came from nowhere, just sitting at the piano and playing whatever came out. As the song developed, the lyrics slowly came and spelled out a story and the rest came from there. The chorus was an easy flowing one, which is rare.”

The Rubens released their latest album Hoops in 2015. Stream ‘Million Man’ in full, below.
