Aussie alt-metal trailblazers Sunk Loto have officially kicked the door open on a brand new era, dropping their latest single Dead Shadows – and marking a pretty wild milestone in the process.
Not only is it their first new material since 2024’s God Complex, it also arrives with the band’s first music video featuring all members since 2003. Yep. Over two decades.
SUNK LOTO – ‘DEAD SHADOWS’
And look, they haven’t exactly eased back into it either. Dead Shadows is all scorching riffs, moody intensity and that unmistakable Sunk Loto bite, sitting right in the sweet spot between where they came from and where they’re heading next.
The band themselves reckon it’s the perfect bridge. After regrouping in early 2024 off the back of their Between Birth and Death anniversary run, a handful of ideas quickly snowballed into new material – with Dead Shadows emerging as the obvious first taste. It’s also a bit of a showcase moment for frontman Jas’ vocals, which sound as sharp and commanding as ever.
Behind the scenes, the track’s got some serious firepower too, produced alongside heavyweight operator Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Make Them Suffer, Animals As Leaders), with engineering from Luke Palmer.
For anyone who needs a refresher: Sunk Loto aren’t just another legacy act dusting things off. Formed on the Gold Coast back in the late ‘90s, they were right there at the forefront of Australia’s alt-metal boom, scoring a Sony deal as teenagers, touring globally, and dropping cult classics like Big Picture Lies and Between Birth and Death before going dark in 2007.
Then came the resurrection.
After 15 years of silence, the band came roaring back in 2022 like they’d never left, selling out shows, celebrating their legacy, and proving there was still plenty left in the tank. Now in 2026, with a refreshed lineup and a clear creative direction, Dead Shadows feels less like a comeback and more like a continuation.
And fans are clearly ready for it. The band’s upcoming August east coast run – their first shows since 2023 – is already completely sold out, with intimate, no-barrier rooms locked in across Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
So to recap: new music, new visuals, sold out shows, and a band 30 years deep still pushing forward. Not a bad way to kick off your next chapter.
