Sheldon Riley Will Represent Australia At The Eurovision Song Contest 2022

This year’s Eurovision Song Contest is happening in Turin, Italy, from Tuesday, 10th – Saturday, 14th May.

SBS’ competition to find the Australian contestant – Eurovision: Australia Decides 2022 – has now come to an end. Sheldon Riley, who finished third in season seven of The Voice (2018), was announced as the winner.

Prior to his emergence on The Voice, Riley competed in season eight (2016) of The X Factor with the group Time and Place. Riley made the quarter finals of America’s Got Talent in 2020. The 21 year old Riley will take his anthemic power ballad, ‘Not The Same’, to the popular song contest in Turin this May.

Riley collected a total of 100 votes in Australia Decides, three more than Perth prog metal band, Voyager, who finished in second place. Brisbane pop-rock performer Jaguar Jonze came in third with 91 votes.

The remaining Australia Decides 2022 competitors were Andrew Lambrou, Charley, Erica Padilla, G-Nation, Isaiah Firebrace and Evie Irie, Jude York, Paulini, and Seann Miley Moore. Firebrace is the only one with previous Eurovision experience, having represented Australia at Eurovision 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Australia began sending representatives to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015. Since that time, Guy Sebastian, Dami Im, Firebrace, Jessica Mauboy, Kate Miller-Heidke and Montaigne have represented Australia. Im has been the most successful of the lot, placing second in 2016 behind Ukraine’s Jamala.
