Slipknot’s Jay Weinberg Named World’s Best Metal Drummer In New Poll

A new poll by Music Radar has seen Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg named as World’s Best Heavy Metal Drummer.

Weinberg, who joined the metal legends back in 2014, replacing longtime drummer Joey Jordison after he was fired from the group. He played on the band’s 2014 album .5: The Gray Chapter as well as this year’s We Are Not Your Kind.

In addition to Slipknot, Weinberg has spent time behind the kit for the likes of Madball and Against Me!, and toured as part of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band in 2009, substituting for his father Max Weinberg.

“Line-up changes, lawsuits and offstage mayhem could easily have derailed Slipknot this year, but instead they obliterated the doubters with We Are Not Your Kind,” wrote Music Radar.

“As stylistically diverse as it is implacably furious, the album is a showcase for Jay Weinberg. No wonder his drum clinic tour was a smash.”

Other contenders in the poll included Paul Bostaph of Slayer and Ray Luzier of Korn, who took out the 2nd and 3rd spots respectively.
