Support Act Aims To Raise $20 Million Through COVID-19 Emergency Appeal

Australian music charity, Support Act have set up a COVID-19 Emergency Appeal to support our music industry and those facing devastating income losses. They’ve contributed $100,000 to the appeal to get it started, with a target of $20 million.

“So far, losses across the sector amount to well over $100 million and are rising daily. As the music industry’s charity, Support Act is committed to doing what it can to help those in need, but our resources are limited,” organisers wrote on the Appeal page.

“We urgently need to fundraise in excess of $20 million dollars to begin providing even a modest level of crisis relief to people who have been impacted.”

Chatting to TheMusic, Support Act’s CEO, Clive Miller said, “Like everybody else, events that we have had planned for the coming weeks and months have all either been cancelled or postponed.”

“We’re seeing a dramatic increase in the numbers of people already reaching out to contact us because they’re struggling either with their mental health wellbeing or their financial situation.”
