Sydney’s YAGKI Turns Trauma Into Captivating Alt-Pop On New Single ‘Something I Do’

Lebanese/Australian singer-songwriter YAGKI has returned with her first single of 2024. Dubbed ‘Something I Do’, the bouncy and enchanting alt-pop gem radiates with minimalistic production, lo-fi charm and crooning R&B-inflected vocal melodies, while lyrically tackling some very poignant themes.

“‘Something I Do’ is an exploration of the sensation of emptiness and the acceptance of detachment,” YAGKI explains in a press statement. “Reflecting on a childhood experience where I was in a coma at the age of three, the song delves into how such trauma echoes into my later life.”

She continues: “It delves into themes of impulsivity and identity struggles, serving as a caution to those attempting to forge close connections with me while I feel so empty.”

Produced by Yianni Adams (Betty, Kyoshi) and mixed by James Guido (LAU, Lucy Sugerman), the song comes accompanied by a stylish music video directed and filmed by Max Pasalic from BESTIES, which you can take for a spin up above.
