Irish pop rock act The Script have been recruited to fill Sam Smith‘s shoes at this year’s Logie Awards ceremony, after the English singer-songwriter was forced to cancel his remaining Australian performances due to a nasty vocal haemorrhage.
His unfortunate plug-pull left a big hole in the Logies’ Sunday night run-sheet, but the crooner’s Sony label mates The Script will now be stepping up to fill that void, capping off their Australian all-ages tour with a performance during the ceremony’s live telecast.
It’s not the first time that the show has had to scramble for a replacement act at the 11th hour. Back in 2010, Susan Boyle pulled out at the last minute, with KD Lang swooping in to save the day.
At the very least, let’s hope The Script’s stand-in performance will help the Logies break even.
