The Smashing Pumpkins Share New Songs ‘Cyr’ & ‘The Colour of Love’

After a mystery countdown, The Smashing Pumpkins have today unveiled two new tracks, entitled ‘Cyr’ and ‘The Colour of Love’.

The tracks are the band’s first music in two years and will appear on the Pumpkins’ upcoming double album, following up to 2018’s Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. That album saw frontman Billy Corgan reunite with former bandmates James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin and guitarist Jeff Schroeder. Corgan also feuded, publicly, with founding bassist D’Arcy Wretzky.

Corgan has described ‘Cyr’ as “dystopic folly” in a statement, per Rolling Stone. “one soul against the world sort of stuff, set against a backdrop of shifting loyalties and sped up time. To me it stands as both hopeful and dismissive of what is and isn’t possible with faith.”

Listen to both new tracks below.

On new Smashing Pumpkins tunes, Corgan recently told the Tennessean, “In many ways, this is the first real album (since the reunion) where we’ve hunkered down and made a classic, ‘Let’s throw it all at the wall and see what happens’ type of Pumpkins record.”

At the time, Corgan also revealed the double album featured 21 songs.

The band also revealed a pecial official performance video of ‘Cyr,’ directed by Linda Strawberry, will premiere tonight Friday, Aug 28 from 11pm (AEST). the video was shot remotely, during lockdown in Chicago and Los Angeles. “This is a goth fever dream of pent up emotion – an artistic visual release attempting to create a momentary escape from the emotional black cloud hanging over all of us this year,” Strawberry explains. “A dark seduction filmed in quarantine at a social distance” An undeniable and welcomed reminder as to why one of America’s most influential alternative bands continue to sell out arenas and garner praise worldwide.”

Tune in for the performance video for ‘Cyr’ at Friday, Aug 28 from 11pm Sydney time:
