Triple J Announces Massive ‘Beat The Drum’ Birthday Concert

UPDATE 09/12/14: Gotye, Daniel Johns and more special guests have been added to the Beat The Drum lineup!

Triple j has announced a massive concert for January 2015 to celebrate the alternative radio station’s 40th anniversary. The Beat The Drum: Celebrating 40 Years of triple j gig will be headlined by the Hilltop Hoods with other acts including The Presets, Vance Joy, Ball Park Music, and The Preatures.

Beat The Drum also promises plenty of special guest appearance from quality performers like Adalita, Courtney Barnett, and Remi, who will be jumping onstage for some live collaborations and surprise, one-off team-ups.

Hilltop MCs Suffa and Pressure joined triple j’s Matt Okine and Alex Dyson to help announce the news on Breakfast With Matt & Alex this morning. Pressure and Suffa also teased bringing along some of their own, currently unannounced, friends to join them onstage.

Triple J are promising “very special guests, will not only perform their trademark festival sets, but there will heaps of surprises along the way, including some incredible acoustic arrangements, unexpected collaborations and covers of legendary Australian hits”.

In 1975 2JJ started up in Sydney, playing You Just Like Me ‘Cos I’m Good In Bed by the Skyhook as the station’s first song broadcast. Today the Js is cherished by music fans across the country and supports independent artists around Australia.

Beat The Drum will be part of next year’s Sydney Festival and will take place on Friday, 16th January 2015 at The Domain. Tickets for Beat The Drum go on sale Monday, 27th October. Triple j will also broadcast Beat The Drum live.
