Vika & Linda Announce First Original Album in Nearly Two Decades, ‘The Wait’

Vika & Linda have announced their first album of new original music in 19 years, The Wait, will arrive in September.

The beloved sibling duo’s seventh studio album features songwriting credits from the likes of Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning, Kasey Chambers and more. “It took us three times to make this record, it kept getting delayed,” Linda commented in a statement. “And we’ve been waiting 19 years to make this record … Waiting for more songs. Waiting for the right opportunity.”

While The Wait marks the first album of new original songs from Vika and Linda Bull since 2002’s Love Is Mighty Close, it will follow a busy 2020 for the duo, which saw their greatest hits anthology ‘Akilotoa enter the ARIA charts at number one, along with the release of their gospel collection, Sunday (The Gospel According to Iso).

To coincide with the announcement, the duo have shared two singles, ‘Raise Your Hand’ and ‘My Heart Is in the Wrong Place’ alongside music videos.

The former is already a fan favourite of live shows, according to Linda. “As soon as we sing ‘raise your hand’, the hands go up in the crowd. With all that’s going on at the moment, this song is relevant in so many ways. It’s anthemic – raise your hand, speak up, say what you want, don’t be ignored.”

‘My Heart Is in the Wrong Place’, meanwhile, is a song that everyone can relate to, says Vika. “Sometimes you feel like giving up, but something in you just makes you keep pushing through. I think that’s why Linda and I have had such a long career – we’ve never listened to the knockers. We just keep pushing through.”
