WAM Awards Shine Spotlight On Western Oz’s Finest

Over the weekend, Western Australia’s favourite sons and daughters were award for the past 12 months of musical prowess that have emitted from the state to all over the world. Many world-class acts have uprooted themselves from the reclusive cities to become some of our greatest musical exports of all time, many of whom received recognition at the 2013 WAM Awards Ceremony.

Taking out the highly coveted Golden WAMI was Andrew Ryan but it was the lads from Tame Impala who stole the show. The Perth psych rockers nabbed Group Of The Year, with their latest release Lonerism being crowned Album Of The Year and the mega track Feels Like We Only Go Backwards declared Single Of The Year.

The categories are fairly all encompassing with awards given to both Heavy Act Of The Year, handed to Karnvivool as well as Punk Act Of The Year awarded to Chainsaw Hookers. State-specific media and industry organisers were also thrown into the spotlight showing a local music scene that’s totally bustling.
