Watch Eddie Maim 40 Years Of Video Game Bad Guys In Iron Maiden’s Epic New ‘Speed Of Light’ Clip

The unyielding metal juggernaut that is Iron Maiden are preparing to unleash their first new album in five years, The Book Of Souls, and we’ve just been given a peek into the kind of madness that the monster double LP has in store, via the ridiculously epic new music video for debut single, Speed Of Light.

The clip, directed by Llexi Leon (the mastermind behind virtual band Eternal Descent) is like a metal gamer’s wet dream, following the band’s undead mascot, Eddie, as he does battle with 40 years worth of video game villains. Or, as Maiden themselves have explained in a statement (via Rolling Stone):

“[The clip] is an ‘homage’ to four decades of video gaming, juxtaposed alongside Iron Maiden’s 40 years of incredible visuals centering on their talisman, Eddie, as he travels through space & time to complete his Herculean task.”

From 2D pixelated Rampage-style climbers, to side-scrolling adventures, Mortal Kombat-style fight sequences and sophisticated Call Of Duty-style first-person shooters, Eddie troops through the circuits of video game history, literally to play with madness.

Iron Maiden are set to release their 16th studio album, the 11-track, 92-minute The Book Of Souls on September 4th. Check out the video for lead single Speed Of Light, below.
