Fatboy Slim has taken an unexpected detour on his current Australian tour as part of the ongoing A Day On The Green concert series, playing a last-minute DJ set in the most unlikely of locales: Northern Soul, a fish & chip shop located in St. Kilda. In the early evening last night (Wednesday, March 19th), the veteran UK DJ took to the decks with roughly an hour’s notice, filling out the room instantly and bringing down reporters from both Channel 9 and Channel 10. The former tried to get a word with the DJ, but when a microphone was stuck in his face he quipped: “I can’t talk right now, I’m working.”
In a pre-set interview, Slim said it was “fantastic” to be able to add such a unique experience to his resume. “At my age, and at my stage of my career, there’s very few things left on my bucket list,” he said. “Playing in a chip shop was one of them. I’ve played in a butcher’s, I’ve played in an igloo… I’ve played some stupid places! But I’ve never played in a chip shop, and I’m very pleased and proud. It’s just a fun thing to do, isn’t it?” News footage of the set can be viewed below, courtesy of Channel 10.
Fatboy Slim Performs Surprise Concert In Melbourne Fish & Chip Shop
Slim is currently in Australia on his Fatboy Slim Loves Australia tour, which has seen him perform some of his biggest-ever national shows – including over 10,000 attendees at Langley Park in Perth and Peter Lehmann Wines in the Barossa Valley. He also took in two other intimate city dates while in town: The UNSW Roundhouse in Sydney on Tuesday and Revolver Upstairs in Melbourne last night. The final two dates of the tour, alongside DJ Seinfeld, CC:Disco! and Jennifer Loveless, are set to take place this weekend: Mt. Duneed Estate in Geelong on Saturday, March 22nd and Sirromet Wines in Mt. Cotton the following day. All remaining tickets are on sale now via MG Live.
