Hockey Dad have become the latest band to take a tilt at triple j‘s weekly Like A Version covers segment, digging up an old grunge favourite just for the occasion.
After tickling everyone’s imagination with the hint “Weiland Smithers’ favourite toy” [which turned out to be a Simpsons‘ reference to Malibu Stacey, you pervs], the Windang duo busted out their own surf rockin’ rendition of Hole’s iconic hit Malibu, off the seminal 1998 grunge album Celebrity Skin.
Giving the song the ol’ “triple J” treatment by stripping it down and dialling back the distortion and vocal grit, Hockey Dad delivered a modern day rendition of the Courtney Love & Billy Corgan-penned track that the J faithful are sure to froth over.
The Hockey Dad lads also used their time at JHQ to bust out a rendish of their OG track A Night Out With off their debut album Boronia. Watch both clips below, alongside HD’s remaining (and largely SOLD OUT) Boronia Aussie tour dates.
