As Ausmusic Month is in full swing over at triple j, Brisbane singer-songwriter Thelma Plum made her way into the studio to deliver a cover version of fellow Aussie Chet Faker‘s Built on Glass track Gold for Like A Version.
After a quick chat about her killer boxing skills and her love for all things Kasey Chambers, Plum got straight to work with her beautiful cover. Accompanied by an electric harp, Plum and her delicate vocals lent a haunting quality to Chet Faker’s standout slow jam.
While in the studio, Plum also performed a stunning rendition of her own track Young In Love, taken from her latest EP Monsters, which which was created with help from hip-hop producer M-Phazes and takes a darker direction to her debut EP Rosie.
The record has garnered rave reviews, however speaking to Music Feeds recently, Plum said that is not something she concerns herself with. “If you get too stuck in your mind about, ‘People are going to like this. People aren’t going to like this’…it’s a little bit futile doing that. So I’ll put it out in the universe, hopefully good things will come.”
Plum is currently in the midst of a monster tour, taking in almost every state and territory and a bunch of regional stops with her new EP. The tour continues tonight at the Karova Lounge in Ballarat. Check out Thelma Plum cover Chet Faker’s Gold along with her original track below.
