This Is What The Weeknd Would Sound Like If His Music Was Heavy Metal

Here’s something you probably didn’t expect to consider today – The Weeknd as a metal star.

The Weeknd is basically at the top of the R&B pyramid right now, scoring two massive hits last year, The Hills and Can’t Feel My Face, but maybe he’d be even more successful if he operated in the metal genre.

An internet genius has taken it on themselves to redo The Hills as a metal song and lay it over a video of the actual Weeknd performing.

Strangely enough, The Hills actually lends itself well to the metal format. It’s dark to start with anyway but howling guitars and crunching percussion add another dimension to it that plunges it even further into darkness.

While this is good, we’re not so sure how the funky, pop-tinged Can’t Feel My Face would fare as it’s far more radio-friendly than The Hills is.

Unfortunately, for those of you who are digging this vibe, The Weeknd will not be going metal on his next album. Speaking to VMAN he noted that his new album has elements of, “The Smiths, Bad Brains, Talking Heads, Prince, and DeBarge.”

“I think it’ll be the best-sounding album I’ve ever done,” he noted, which sounds promising.

“It’s hard to label the sound because, when I first came out, nobody would label it R&B. I just want to keep pushing the envelope without it feeling forced.”
