Here’s A 1000-Person Foo Fighters Cover Band Performing ‘Learn To Fly’

Well, they’ve done it. That Italian city that wanted Foo Fighters to come and play a show for them so bad that they hatched a scheme to form a 1,000-person cover band and perform a Foos classic, have actually done it.

After first proclaiming their plans to assemble a band of human musicians 200 times the size of Foo Fighters to perform Dave Grohl & co’s classic Learn To Fly back in December of last year, the city of Cesena in northern Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region has now followed through, right on schedule.

Call it what you will: a publicity stunt, a giant musical love letter, a mass bribe, or the biggest display of butt-kissing the rock world has ever seen. But the fact remains that 250 singers, 350 guitarists, 150 bassists, 250 drummers and one conductor that make up the Rockin’ 1000 have gathered together in one place to serenade Foo Fighters with their 1999 There Is Nothing Left To Lose hit, and have nabbed a spot in the Guinness World Records for their troubles.

No word yet from the Foos camp yet as to whether the mass effort will pay off, but it’s not exactly a shot in the dark. Dave Grohl has already conceded that fan organised shows could be the way of the future, and a crowd-funding attempt by Foo fans in Grohl’s home state of Virginia last year also proved successful.

Check out the 1,000 person cover of Foo Fighters’ Learn To Fly, below. It is legitimately incredible. It’ll probably make Dave Grohl cry.

UPDATE: Looks like it might have worked. Foo Fighters have reposted the video to Facebook, along with a message from Dave Grohl, who turns out, speaks Italian. “Ci vediamo a presto, Cesena…. xxx Davide,” her wrote. Basically that means, “We’ll see you soon Cesena.” Nice one.

UPDATE 01/08/15: Looks like the video inspired Dave Grohl so much that he’s now responded to the town with a video message, saying, “We’re coming, I promise.” Except he said it in Italian.
