Morrissey Australian Tour December 2012

Morrissey has confirmed his Australian tour dates for this December after weeks of rumours and leaked dates, which now appear to be true. He’ll be performing six shows in total, including two shows in New Zealand.

Rumours had been building since the beginning of the year, when he announced that he would be performing dates around the Asia Pacific region. Though Australia was not originally mentioned, it was thought that he would stop off here as well as New Zealand. The tour will follow the close of his 35-date US tour, which will also see him appear on The Jimmy Fallon Show, The Jimmy Kimmel Show and The Colbert Report.

Often credited as the man who patented indie music for the masses, Morrissey’s wit, swelling guitar anthems and signature sorrow have defined a musical path that many other bands have since travelled down. Joining Morrissey on tour will be American singer/songwriter Kristeen Young. The talented performer has been supporting Morrissey across his 2012 world tour. Young’s performances are marked by wildly emotional energy and mastering of the piano.

In June, the band’s drummer Matt Walker quit the group after 6 years with Morrissey. At the time, Walker took to Twitter saying “things are weird and getting weirder”. A statement was released on Morissey’s website, saying: “Our little covered wagon has lost drummer Matt Walker, who was eager to bring his term to an end. No bargainings could persuade him to stay, and his interest drew its last breath at Stockton.”

General public tickets will go on sale from 9am local time, on Wednesday 26 September.
