Big Day Out 2014 Dates & Lineup Announcement Details Leaked

Written by James Arnold-Garvey on July 12, 2013

UPDATE: Big Day Out 2014 lineup is finally here, and it sure is a big ‘un!

An eagle-eyed commuter has spotted a prematurely pasted poster advertising Big Day Out 2014 which not only reveals the dates for the festival but confirms that BDO will be hosting two events in Sydney next year as well as when we can expect the all-important lineup announcement.

UPDATE: New lineup details have been revealed by the Herald Sun, and shot down by Big Day Out!

This is either some savvy buzz-building, or someone at Big Day Out is getting their bum kicked in a major way today, as we weren’t expecting these details for some time. As seen below, the poster was spotted in Melbourne, underneath the rail bridge at Swan Street in Richmond, and our source snapped the image before the poster could be removed.

Leak, stuff-up or otherwise, the big news revealed is that there will be not one but TWO Big Day Outs in Sydney this year, a concept trialled in 2004, 2010 and 2011, the last of which saw Tool and Rammstein as headliners.

Another exciting detail is that Sydney Big Day Out will be returning to the Australia Day long weekend in 2014, after Melbourne hosted the festival on that date in 2013. Hopefully this means that once again Sydney will get their traditional Australia Day triple j’s Hottest 100 countdown on the big screen.

Two days for Sydney over Australia Day long weekend can only mean that Big Day Out are planning a major lineup for 2014, and the poster also reveals when we can expect the lineup announcement, said to be coming on 31st July.

So there you have it – we now know when to tune in for the lineup announce, and we know when we’ll be attending in 2014. All we need to know is who’s actually on the bill. Place your bets? Check out the full dates below.

UPDATE: Director of Marketing & PR for Big Day Out Johanna Greenway has issued a statement confirming the details on the poster are correct:

“Posters were to go up Monday – guess now we’ll put them up everywhere. But at least everyone knows to save the date for line-up announcement.”

UPDATE 2: The full lineup and details have been unveiled!
