First Acts & Dates Announced For MONA FOMA 2017

UPDATE 12/10/16: MONA FOMA has unveiled its 2017 music program in full.

ORIGINAL STORY: Tasmania’s annual MONA FOMA event (that’s the Museum Of Old & New Art’s Festival of Music & Art) has locked in its 2017 dates and named the first two acts which have been confirmed for its latest roster.

Puscifer, backed by Tool’s Maynard James Keenan, have been confirmed for the festival, with their latest album Money Shot sure to be a point of focus. The band have also announced a 2017 Australian tour today.

Keeping the calibre considerably high, the other act announced for MONA FOMA is the Mike Patton-fronted tētēma, which features acclaimed Australian experimental composer and pianist Anthony Pateras. This will be the band’s only live performance on this trip down under. What’s more, it will be a world exclusive live premiere, which is an absolute coup for the event.

Festival curator Brian Ritchie says, “Mofo is thrilled to be able to present some of rock’s most notable luminaries out on musical joy rides. Mike Patton and Maynard James Keenan are both visionaries and serial musical adventurers. They are just the tip of the iceberg of avant-garde musicians crashing into Tasmania in January.”

FOMA, which takes place in and around Hobart, has been locked in for Friday, 18th January to Sunday, 22nd January 2017. The full lineup for the festival is set to be announced on Wednesday, 12th October 2016.
